Per
venire incontro alle necessità del fedeli,
che sempre più numerosi accorrono al santuario
della Madonna delle Grazie, I confratelli di Padre
Pio hanno sentito la necessità di costruire
una nuova chiesa, che sorgerà a sud del convento
e si stenderà verso valle, seguendo idealmente
il percorso che lo sguardo del beato Padre compiva
ogni mattina dalla finestra della sua celletta.
Il
progetto è di Renzo Piano, architetto di
fama internazionale, che ha ideato un edificio,
a forma di conchiglia, capace di ospitare 10.000
(diecimila) persone sedute.
