In
his cell, Padre Pio prayed and offered up his suffering.
It was here that his life drew to a close and he
was able to return to the house of the Almighty.
We
can see: fingerless gloves lying on a table to
the left; some white socks with blood stains on
them; a piece of bandage used on his chest wound;
a casket containing blood clots from the stigmata;
books on spiritual subjects; a folding chair and
the handkerchief with which Padre Pio blessed
the pilgrims from his window (over the washbasin,
on the right).
A phosphorescent statue of the Madonna, small
holy pictures, two alarm clocks, a watch and a
copy of the Life of God's Servant, Genoveffa de
Troia can be seen in a small bedside cabinet.
The
slippers worn by Padre Pio to the last hour of
his death are in a casket. Next to the small armchair
there is a small table with a few mementoes: a
friar's cord, a rosary, a relic of the Holy Cross,
some medals, as well as sweets he would give to
children and a box containing the snuff he would
offer to his friends.
A proper washbasin, situated in the hollow of
the blessing window, has replaced the basin which
stood on a wrought iron trestle. The small armchair
in the cell was the 'seat of divine and human
wisdom' where Padre Pio would fall deep into meditation,
prepare for Mass or listen to the hardships and
joys of children in faith, and where he finally
gave himself over to death in preparation for
his way to Heaven.

school
"Let
us always trust in God, and may our lively faith and the comfort of Christian
hope assist us in this. We must pray continually, moreover, that peace may soon
smile on the nations. We should turn our thoughts to heaven, our true homeland,
of which our earthly country is but a dim image, and make every effort with the
divine assistance to preserve at all times, amidst happy or sad events, the cheerful
calm that becomes the true followers of the fair Nazarene" (Epist. I,
p. 596)
